Signature Workshops

My signature workshops teach leaders how to use anthropological tools to drive business results.

The biggest results rarely come from more data — they come from two overlooked skills: observing closely, and staying genuinely curious. Both are drawn from the discipline of anthropology, and both produce outsized results precisely because they're so easy to miss.

The Power of Observation

Most leaders act on assumptions long before they've actually looked closely at what's happening around them. This workshop teaches a different starting point: observation as a leadership discipline.

Drawing on the tools of organizational anthropology, participants learn how to read the unwritten culture of their organization — the rituals, norms, and signals that shape behavior far more than any org chart or policy. Leaders leave with practical techniques for noticing what's really going on, separating signal from noise, and using that insight to make sharper, more grounded decisions. Specific topics include:

Break out of expert tunnel vision. Learn why experience can narrow your thinking — and how to deliberately shift between the inside view and the outside view to catch what routine expertise misses.

Find the insight hiding behind the data. Learn to observe the human behavior behind the numbers — the same instinct that led to breakthrough products and life-saving innovations built on nothing more than careful observation.

Turn observation into a story that drives decisions. Learn to connect small data (the “why”) to big data (the “how much”) so your insights don’t just sit in a report — they change what your organization does next.

Participants leave able to see what their data, their meetings, and their routines have been hiding in plain sight — and turn that insight into decisions and stories that move people to act.

Building a Culture of Curiosity

Most leaders say curiosity matters. Few actually protect it. Under pressure to move fast and look decisive, curiosity is often the first thing to go — replaced by quick answers and confident assumptions, even when the moment calls for a better question.

This workshop draws on the science of curiosity — why it fades as we gain experience, what drives it, and why the most effective leaders protect it anyway. Participants learn to recognize the difference between problems that call for a fast, familiar answer and problems that call for real inquiry, and how to build the habits that keep curiosity alive under pressure.

  • Understand the science behind curiosity — what drives it, why it naturally declines with experience, and how to recognize when a situation calls for questions instead of answers.

  • Build cognitive flexibility — learn to shift between fast, familiar thinking and the kind of open-ended sensemaking that catches what expertise alone misses.

  • Strengthen relationships through genuine inquiry — practice the active listening and empathy that build trust, rather than defaulting to quick answers under pressure.

The result is a leadership style that treats not-knowing as an asset, not a liability — one that drives innovation, builds cognitive flexibility, and earns the kind of trust that comes from genuinely listening.
